Mosebolatan - The audacity of death [Part ii ]

Can anyone really prepare for death? Can anyone take a trip without packing and preparing? This is the story of a Lagos Big Boy,Mosebolatan Edwards.

Here we are trying to deal with the killings in Plateau State and seeming laissez-faire attitude of leadership and then the news about the descent of liquid fire on over 50 vehicles, due to an avoidable situation.

This is so disheartening! Can anyone really prepare for death? Can anyone take a trip without packing and preparing? This is the story of a Lagos Big Boy, Mosebolatan Edwards.

MOSE AT WORK

9:30a.m Mose settled behind his desk. The office had a damp smell, evidence that it had not been cleaned or aired in light years. He was furious. He called the office boy, receptionist, secretary and cleaners to his office, they were all graduates of “universities of sorts” but some couldn’t even spell their names right!

“What the hell is wrong with you Lazy Nigerian youths?” he blotted out, giving them severe tongue lashing for about five minutes. Mose was furious, the workers terrified, they could see the forecast already today will be a terrible Monday at the office.

Anyone that really knew Mose understood that he had the capacity to make dangerous decisions when he is angry; their jobs were dangling right before their eyes.

MOSE’S FILE TRAY AND MEETINGS

11:00a.m-3:00p.m: it was hectic; he had so many files to work on and still attend to visitors in between. There was good news, though; he had won another contract with the state government having passed through due process.

At about 4:00p.m Chinwe sauntered in; not a favorite of the staff, but they understood that Oga must never know exactly how they feel about her.

She sat at the reception till Mose finished up and was ready to leave the office. He gave the secretary and envelope and instructed her not to open it till he had left. It is understandable that the tension in the office was palpable, I mean that could be their sack letters in there, for all they knew.

5:00pm : Mose and Chinwe left the office together. It turns out that Chinwe will be making the trip to Ibadan as well. He wanted to celebrate the new deal with her!

Meanwhile, back at the office there was jubilation! Mose had left cheques of N250,000 for each worker. No explanations, just the Cheques. Everyone was elated.

Traffic was terrible, it usually is, but this Monday was a nightmare. Mose was so happy to have Chinwe’s company, they gisted and snacked while Kasali attempted to maneuver the vehicle as he inched towards the expressway.

They were on Otedola Bridge at this time and Mose warned kasali” look I have told you not to stay near tankers or trailers, please don’t kill me before my time “ Chinwe laughed out loud, “ Kasali abeg no kill my destiny helper o “. They both burst into laughter and Kasali chuckled as well. He made sure that there were at least 7 cars ahead of him.

They probably didn’t hear the blast, they might have seen “liquid fire” in a split second that was it, the end had come rudely, it came without knocking.

What is life? Why is life? If we have no say in how and when we were born, should we when we face death?

Here is a fulfilled man, born under miraculous circumstances, with everything going for him, money, fame, power, and beautiful family. Death is audacious indeed!
