Their former schools are a source of pride and they want to give back to them. However, the challenge is how this can be done given the economic realities in the country. In response, AlumUnite has launched Project X, a two-legged campaign focused on connecting Nigerians with their alma mater at all levels - primary, secondary or tertiary - and helping them give back to their old schools through their alumni groups and other initiatives.

AlumUnite is a platform focused on changing the way education is financed in Africa, leveraging technology to help people connect with their alma mater, and contributing their quota to improving the education system starting with their former schools.

Commenting on the initiative, the Co-founder of AlumUnite, Chiamaka Kwazu, said its goal is to build legacies for the future of Africa, starting with Nigeria. “In order to make people more aware of the platform and our various offerings, we realized the need to drive a campaign that will not only increase top-of-mind awareness but also drive signups and donations on the platform, hence Project X.”

Kwazu said the first phase of the campaign, #RepYourSchool, kicked off on February 7, 2022, to be a precursor to the main campaign, “Riding on the existing school wars that Nigerians are accustomed to, this phase of the campaign had influencers start conversations around showing support and love for their alma mater using the hashtag, #RepYourSchool. We also held an IG Live session with Blessing Abeng to help cement our messaging.”

She revealed that the aim of the second phase of the campaign, was to drive the target audience to signup, create campaigns, and donate towards education-based projects on the AlumUnite platform. “Influencers who were engaged introduced AlumUnite to their followers, helping to drive sign-ups and donations on the AlumUnite platform. The conversation was a call to action for people to prove their love for their schools by starting projects on the platform and driving donations among their alumni groups and close associates. The first project to reach the 60 percent mark will receive a 10 percent donation and an execution team from AlumUnite.”

The Project X campaign which kicked off on February 15, 2022 enjoyed massive online engagement as many influencers jumped on the conversation, hence, leading to over 1000 website visits in the first few hours of the start of campaign.

The AlumUnite team enjoined Nigerians to show support for education in Nigeria, by joining the platform and donate towards projects that would encourage conducive teaching and learning.
