<h1>The Zamfara Government on Tuesday donated cash to families of those killed by gunmen in Kawaye village in Anka Local Government area of the state .</h1>

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gunmen had attacked the village, killing 13 persons and burnt down several houses and food items worth millions of naira.

The donation was presented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, at Anka Emir’s palace, the headquarters of the local government.

Rikiji said the state government released the donation of over N60 million, 318 bags of assorted grains and 305 sets of clothing materials.

The beneficiaries comprised families of the deceased, kidnapped victims and those who lost their properties.

Rikiji, said N500,000 would be given to each of the deceased family while N250,000 to those who lost their properties, shops, houses, motorcycles and silos.

He said the state government also donated N500,000 to each of the 10 persons who lost their vehicles to the bandits during the attack and N200,000 to each of the 60 kidnapped victims from the area.

He said N2 million also would be given to a victim who lost his new car to the fire set up by the bandits during the attack.

Rikiji said the assistance was aimed at supporting the victims and reducing their worries caused by the incident.

He urged people of the state to continue with prayers and support government and security agencies in fighting insecurity in the state.

The Emir of Anka and Chairman of the state Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, thanked the government for the assistance.

Ahmad promised judicious distribution of the items to the affected victims.

He decried the incessant killings caused by the bandit attacks in the state, which he described as unfortunate and worrisome.

The emir attributed the increase of insecurity in the country to handling of arms by individuals.

He said the major cause of insecurity in the country was the proliferation of illegal arms from neighbouring countries through borders.

He urged the Federal Government to maximise it’s efforts in ensuring border control management in the country.

The Chairman of Anka Local Government, Alhaji Mustafa Muhammad, lauded measures introduced by the government in addressing security challenges in the state.

He urged security agencies to increase their efforts to provide solutions to the problem.

Killings: Zamfara Government donates N60m to victims’ families

<h1>The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Zamfara North, Alhaji Tijjani Yahaya-Kaura has retained his seat in the Senate.</h1>

Yahaya-Kaura, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character, was declared winner with 68,027 votes by the Returning Officer Prof. Aliyu Bunza on Tuesday in Kaura-Namoda.

Bunza said the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Sahabi Ya’u polled 43,521 votes.

“Total number of votes cast is 127507 made up of 123, 056 valid votes and 4,451 rejected votes,” he said.

Also, the Returning Officer for Kaura-Namoda/Birnin-Magaji Federal Constituency, Salisu Sabo, declared the candidate of APC Ibrahim Mohammed winner of the election with 35,795 votes beating the PDP’s candidate, Alhaji Sani Umar who scored 23,672 votes.

Sabo said other candidates who took part in the election are- Ahmad Rabiu of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who got 430 votes and Aminu Isa Sakajiki of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) who got 1,383 votes among others.

The APC’s candidate for Shinkafi/Zurmi Federal Constituency, Alhaji Abubukar Hussaini-Moriki has also been declared winner.

INEC Returning Officer, Dr Ahmad Galadima said Hussaini-Moriki won with 32,915 votes against the PDP’s candidate, Alhaji Bello Hassan who polled 16,638 votes.

He said the candidates of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 3,231 votes, while the candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) got 3012 votes.

Speaking shortly after, the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Lawal Liman commended party supporters and the entire people of the constituency for electing the party’s candidates.

Liman said APC has retain its position as the strongest party in the state.

“This indicate that people of Zamfara state are satisfied with the APC administration led by Gov. Abdula’ziz Yari and President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

APC wins Senate, Reps seats in Zamfara

<h1>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Gov. Abdula’ziz Yari of Zamfara as winner of Zamfara West Senatorial election held on Saturday.</h1>

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the district comprised six local government areas of Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata-Mafara

Announcing the results in Tatala-Mafara on Monday, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Lawal Mayanchi, said Yari of the APC

polled 153,626 votes, while Alhaji Lawal Hassan of the PDP scored 69,293 votes.

NAN reports that other contestants from other political parties, who participated in the election, were Muhammad Lokoja of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) with 6,727 votes, Muhammad Rilwan of Peopes Party of Nigeria (PPN), who had 133 votes and Nasiru Anka of the Peoples Redemption Party who scored 555 votes.

A chieftain of the APC in the state, Alhaji Sha’ayau Sarkin-Fawa, described the victory as a welcome development.

Sarkin-Fawa said Gov. Yari deserved to be a representative of the state in the Senate, considering the achievements recorded by his administration in the past eight years.

He said that the victory was an indication that the people of Zamfara were with APC as a political party.

Gov. Yari wins Zamfara West Senate seat

<h1>The Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has released names of members of its campaign committees, ahead of the Feb. 16 and March 2, 2019 general elections.</h1>

The state Chairman of APC, Alhaji Lawal Liman, made this known to newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that since Oct. 7, 2018, the issue of APC primary elections in the state had been lingering and characterised by litigations.

The State High Court 3, Gusau, presided over by Justice Bello Shinkafi, had last Friday upheld the primary elections conducted by the state APC, under the leadership of Alhaji Lawal Liman.

The court also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept the list of all the candidates produced by the primaries.

Liman said that the campaign committees categorised as follows: Main Committee which comprised 60 members under the leadership of the Chief of Staff to Gov. Abdulaziz Yari, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulkarim.

The state APC Secretary, Alhaji Sani Musa, is to serve as secretary.

We also have local government committees which comprised 518 members.

In each of the 14 local government areas, we have 37 members nominated by the party to take care of the campaign activities in their respective areas, Liman said in a statement.

According to him, the party also nominated Gov. Abdulaziz Yari, as Chairman of the Presidential APC Rally Campaign Committee.

He said that the committee has 111 members; with Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi as Secretary.

Liman appreciated the APC supporters in the state for the cooperation given to the leadership of the party in the state.

He urged them to continue to cooperate and support the APC in order to provide meaningful developmental projects in the state and Nigeria in general.

The state Chairman of APC, Alhaji Lawal Liman, made this known to newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday.

2019 Elections: Zamfara APC names members of campaign committees

<h1>The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello on Thursday called for effective security measures during the upcoming general elections in the state.</h1>

Bello made the call while receiving the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Asmau Maikudi, who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.

The emir noted that there was need for INEC and security agencies to provide adequate security measures for the exercise to allow every citizen to vote according to their choice.

"We all know the security situation of this state, especially in the rural communities, therefore adequate security measures must be provided, before, during and after the election."

"If there is adequate security measures, even if some criminals want to distract the elections, they will not succeed," he said.

The emir who thanked the INEC commissioner for the visit, lauded the commissions commitment to ensure free, fair and credible elections in the country.

He assured the emirates support to INEC and others stakeholders for a successful elections in the state.

He said that the emirate council would support INEC activities in enlightening the public to ensure the distribution of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Gusau Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko urged INEC to make arrangements to avoid late arrival of election materials to polling units, saying it was a major problem during elections in the past.

"If we consider security challenges in this state, there is need to make adequate arrangement to start the election early to finish on time," he said.

Earlier, Mrs Asmau Maikudi said she was in the palace to appreciate the emir over his support and cooperation to activities of the commission in the state.

"We are here to solicit more support from you, as traditional ruler and father in the society.

"We believe you have a great role to play in ensuring free, fair and credible elections especially in the areas of enlightenment and awareness creation.

"We know the kind support you have been giving us particularly in reaching the people. One purpose of this visit, is the issue of PVCs distribution in the state.

"Gusau Local Government has the highest number of uncollected PVCS in the state, we have a total of 24,430 unclaimed PVCS belonging to people of Gusau LGA.

"We need support of all stakeholders to ensure that all the unclaimed PVCS are distributed to their owners.

We are therefore appealing for all stakeholders support to ensure the successful conduct of the election in this state," she added.
