<h1>The Taraba Government on Monday imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Jalingo, the state Capital from Monday March 11, until further notice.</h1>

According to a statement signed by Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Darius Ishaku, the curfew would run from 6p.m to 6a.m daily.

The government however, explained that some INEC Officials, Key agents of political parties and observers involved in collation of elections results are exempted.

Gov. Darius Ishaku appealed to the people of the state to continue to be law abiding and urged security agents to ensure strict compliance in order to prevent break down of law and order in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that as at the time of filing this report, results from eight local government councils so far collated, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won seven, while the All progressives Congress (APC) won one.

Results from the remaining eight local government councils were still being collated.

The government however, explained that some INEC Officials, Key agents of political parties and observers involved in collation of elections results are exempted.

Elections: Taraba Govt imposes dust to dawn curfew

<h1>﻿Alhaji Ibrahim El-Sudi, the Chairman of the All progressives Congress (APC) Taraba chapter on Wednesday said Alhaji Sani Abubakar remained the party’s governorship candidate in the state.</h1>

El-Sudi, who was reacting to a Federal High Court order earlier in the day in Jalingo which disqualified Abubakar on the grounds of falsification of age, said that the same case had been determined and dismissed by a superior court in 2007.

The Chairman noted that the party’s team of lawyers were already moving to appeal the “mischievous judgement”.

He urged the party supporters to continue with their campaign for the Saturday’s governorship polls to ensure victory for the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo Presided over by Justice Stephen Pam had issued an order on Wednesday directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and APC not to recognize Abubakar as a governorship candidate.

A copy of the judgement obtained by NAN reveals that Mr Usman Udi, Mr Joshua Paaku, Mr George Geofrey and Alhaji Muslim Munkaila had approached the court on Jan 9, asking it to disqualify Abubakar on the grounds of falsification of his date of birth.

“It is hereby declared that the information contained in the affidavit Abubakar supporting his personal particulars that he was born on Feb 14, 1968 is in conflict with his date of birth contained in the West African Senior School Certificate he submitted to INEC,” the court noted.

The Chairman noted that the party’s team of lawyers were already moving to appeal the “mischievous judgement”.

Declaring the result in Wukari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Chibiya Shangu said Shiddi polled 39,312 votes to defeat his close rival, Prof. Yakubu Aliyara of Action Alliance (AA) who got 22,147 votes.

According to him, Mr Naphtali Kefas of the peoples Democratic party (PDP) polled 20,574 votes while Mr Josiah Kente of the All progressives Congress (APC) got 17, 522 votes.

Shiddi, who spoke with journalists shortly after, appreciated the electorate for their support.

He also commended INEC for conducting peaceful and credible election.

“I want to thank the people of my constituency for trusting me with their mandate again even when my party is still minor in the state.

“I also commend INEC for conducting a free, fair and peaceful election to enable me win my re-election bid,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that results of senate and other House of Representatives election were still being collated across the state.

<h1>Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate on Tuesday pledged to complete the Mambilla Hydro Electric Power Dam in Taraba, if elected.</h1>

Abubakar, who made the pledge at the PDP Presidential campaign in Jalingo, said that the current administration had promised to construct the dam but failed to keep its promise.

The PDP candidate also promised to tackle insecurity in the state and the country head-on, to pave way for rapid development.

“If elected president of Nigeria on Feb. 16, I will complete the Mambilla Hydro Electric Power Dam within my tenure in office, to solve the problem of electricity in the state and the country.

“I will also construct Federal Government roads in the state as well as refund the money Taraba spent in constructing federal roads in the state.”

He urged the people of the state to re-elect Gov. Darius Ishaku to enable him to continue with delivering good governance.

The PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, urged the people of the state to vote Atiku for job creation, peace and prosperity of the country.

Secondus urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level playing field for all so that the outcome of the polls would be accepted by all.

Ishaku assured the presidential candidate of unalloyed support by the people of the state, to ensure his victory at the polls.

He noted that Atiku’s candidature was a symbol of unity and progress of the country, adding that he should be supported for a better Nigeria.

<h1>The Chief Press Secretary to Taraba Governor, Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa, has been reportedly abducted by gunmen on Wednesday while on his way to Gembu along Bali Gashaka axis of the road.</h1>

Alhaji Haruna Manu, the Taraba Deputy Governor confirmed this to newsmen in Jalingo.

Manu, who said the abductors had yet to contact anybody, urged the public to pray for the safe release of Mijinyawa and other kidnap victims.

The wife to the abducted CPS, Hajiya Sekina Mijinyawa, also confirmed the incident to newsmen.

She said that her husband left home for Gembu in Sardauna Local Government Area at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday only for him to be kidnapped on the way.

News Agency of Nigeria gathered that Mijinyawa was on his way to Mambilla Plateau to join his principal, Gov. Darius Ishaku, who is on campaign tour of the area.

She appealed to the kidnappers to have mercy on her husband and release him unhurt.

Alhaji Yusuf Garba, one of those who narrowly escaped the kidnappers, said apart from the CPS and other government official, a foreigner whom he said was on his way to one of the Internally Displaced Persons camp, was also kidnapped.

Garba, who narrated how the kidnappers took over the highway for several hours, said the CPS and the other victims after been dispossessed of their belongings were led away into the forest by the abductors.

Mr David Akinremi, Commissioner of Police in Taraba, also confirmed the incident.

He, however, said that police had deployed some officers in the area to commence search for the victims.

Alhaji Haruna Manu, the Taraba Deputy Governor confirmed this to newsmen in Jalingo.
