BURLINGTON, Vt. — If Jane O’Meara Sanders had had her way, a stretch of prime real estate in Burlington along Lake Champlain would have become a college campus. Instead, it became a cloud lingering over her reputation and her husband’s presidential campaign.
The previous lawsuit touched off a power struggle that pitted Oliver North, an employee of Ackerman who also served as the NRA’s president, against LaPierre.
She said the board had acted in late February at the urging of their son, David Driscoll, the institute’s executive director. The news was first reported by The Associated Press.
The trip has been a subject of scrutiny in at least four inquiries into the NRA’s ties to Russia; questions about the NRA have also surfaced in the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.
