Here are three things you need to start doing as soon as possible to increase your chances of getting a job immediately after graduation.
1. Network
As an undergraduate, you have a great opportunity to meet people and make friends with them and have their contacts. Being in a University or Polytechnic will connect you with lecturers, professors and faculty members.
Don't these people as acquaintances but as potential connections, you can benefit from when the time comes.
You can also build your network online by organizing your LinkedIn profile and resume to make it look attractive and professional. If you haven't been doing this, start now.
2. Have a vision/plan
Preparing for graduation without a clear plan for what is next after graduation is never a good idea. As you are rounding up your academic program, it is important you get into the zone and mental state of the job hunt.
Write out your plans and start working towards achieving them now, don't wait till after writing your final papers. If your goals require you to have a certain quality or skill, go for it, learn it and be confident in your abilities.
3. Keep your options open
While you prepare yourself for your dream job, it is important you know that your dream job might not be the first job you'll get after graduation. Instead of preparing yourself only for your dream job, it is advisable you keep your options open.
This will prevent you from getting disappointed when you don't get the job you love and also helps you to gather skills and experience that may be useful for you when you eventually get the job you love.
