15 Soldiers Imprisoned For Refusing To Fight

According to reports, 15 soldiers of the Nigerian Army have each been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for refusing to go to battle against terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

The soldiers, attached to the 23rd Armoured Brigade in Yola, Adamawa state, were detained for three weeks before they were sentenced by a court martial on charges of insubordination, Leadership reports.

A senior military officer reportedly confirmed the verdict saying:

“The soldiers had allegedly refused the orders of their superiors to draft back to the theatre of war.

“In the military tradition, a soldier is expected to obey the last order but the 15 soldiers convicted by the military command were adjudged to have committed acts of insubordination by their refusal to draft to the warfront.”

This comes after 12 soldiers were sentenced to death for mutiny after they attacked and shot their commander in Borno state.
