Anadolu Efes win, CSKA Moscow secure home advantage

EA7 Olimpia Milano's Euroleague play-off hopes are over after they fell to an 86-78 defeat to Group F rivals Anadolu Efes at the Abdi Ipekci Arena.

The Italian side knew that victory in Istanbul was a necessity to keep their season alive, but saw their early lead evaporate as the hosts racked up a 300th win in European competition.

Thomas Huertel's late heroics helped drag the hosts from 10 points down in the third quarter, as Anadolu stayed in control of their own destiny in their bid to wrap up fourth place.

They were forced to do things the hard way after slumping to an 11-point deficit by the end of the first quarter.

That was cut to six points by the halfway point before Nenad Krstic's 22-point haul and Huertel's 16-point third-period burst helped Anadolu make the most of their momentum.

Elsewhere in the group, CSKA Moscow secured home-court advantage for the play-offs with a victory over Olympiacos.

Both sides had already qualified prior to Friday's meeting, but the win ensures the Russian of a top-two berth, while their opponents now face a third-place finish.

After Laboral Kutxa Vitoria defeated Fenerbahce on Thursday, Olympiacos failed to make the most of the opportunity as the hosts led throughout in the Russian capital.

"First of all, I want to congratulate the team for getting already, one game before the end of the Top 16, the home-court advantage. I want to congratulate them for this, that's number one," explained CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis.

"I think we changed a lot of things and the players were more dedicated to go and to follow and support any jumper.

"We need to continue to play that way, defensively, above all."

Zalgiris overcame Crvena Zvezda Telekom 76-70 in the day's opening game, as Paulius Jankunas top scored in a clash that saw both sides playing largely for pride.

Neither side were able to qualify for the play-offs prior to Friday's fixture at the Zalgiris Arena, although a late flourish saw the hosts fight back from 67-66 down to retain a lead until the final whistle.

It saw the hosts sign off their home campaign for the season as Zvezda centre Boban Marjanovic registered a 15th double-double of the season, with 14 points and 12 rebounds, to set a new Euroleague record.
