Ramadan is a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad(SAW). It is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam-wikipedia.

Urging Muslims to share with the poor, South Brunswick resident and Board of Education member Azra Baig in an interview with Tapinto.net said “As the Month of Fasting or Ramadan approaches, we would like to encourage Muslims near and far to take part in the Ramadan Sharing Initiative.”

A Facebook page called Ramadan Sharing Initiative has also been put up to encourage Muslims to share with the poor.

A post from the page read 'Muslims can share a plate of food, a bowl of dates, a food basket or some cookies.'

Saima Iqbal further explained saying 'Ramadan is a month of honouring and celebrating the teachings of the Muslim's Holy Book, the Quran.  And what better way to celebrate the teachings than to act with peace, love and kindness.'
