4 features micro-blogging site could have added instead of 280 characters

The company has defended the change from its signature 140 character, saying it was meant to draw in more users.

Twitter has finally rolled out the 280 characters to replace the 140 characters in a tweet.

The micro-blogging network had earlier announced it was strongly considering increasing the 140 characters to 280 in a tweet.

And judging by the reactions, people didn’t think it was a good idea for a number of reasons.

Some feel it would make the tweets too long, arguing that some words would end up being redundant. Some took it political and in a rather light fashion, saying they are fine with the change as long as Twitter does not extend the privilege to Trump

Twitter’s reason for going ahead with this change they say is in a bid to attract more users and boost engagement on the platform.

But to play along with the opposing Twitter users who would rather not have the 280 character extension, we look at four alternative features/functions that Twitter could have added, most of which users have been clamouring for but for some reason Twitter has refused to implement.

An edit function

Users are bound to make grammatical and spelling errors as they compose tweets. And they would really just love a simple edit function that can help out with that whether that comes before or after the tweet has gone out, instead of having to delete the entire tweet and write it all over again. That could be really annoying.

Audio messages

Twitter could really come to more life with audio messages being activated. At times, you don’t want to write and just want to talk. Think about it Twitter.

Stickers

These large emoticons are fun ways to communicate and express one’s self. This could really spice up the way everyone communicates on Twitter.

Stories

Stories have now become a popular feature in the social media sphere. So Twitter might do well to roll out the feature too. This could be especially useful for those who do not use Snapchat, Facebook, Whatsapp or Instagram but are active on Twitter. Strange as it may seem, there are people out there who fit such profile.
