Facebook has announced that it will no longer track users’ location by default. This is coming amidst privacy concerns expressed by most users in the United States.
According to Tan Chudnovsky, Facebook’s head of product management for messaging products, “Facebook Messenger does not receive location information about you unless location services are enabled on your phone for the app.”
He also added that 'Facebook Messenger app does not gather location data in the background and does not ask for new permissions for your information.'
The new development has already been rolled out on Android and Apple devices.
For Android smartphones, you can turn it off, by going to Settings > Location sharing.
iPhone, iPad or iPod Shuffle users, can setup location sharing by going to Settings > Privacy > Location > Services.
According to Techworm,'…you can turn it on by tapping on the towards the bottom-right of a chat window and selecting Location.'
You can also share a map of your location or a fun spot you are visiting.
