At its annual I/O Developer Conference which held yesterday in Mountain View, California, USA, Google announced the newest features that will be coming to Android O, the next version of its Android mobile operating system.

David Burke, VP of Android Engineering, listed some key features that will be available on the next Android OS. Here is all you need to know about Android O:

  • It will support picture-in-picture for apps, which means you will be able to watch a video while you do other things on your phone. This can be useful in several situations like if you are watching a tutorial, for example, and you need to take notes. 
  • Notifications are getting an update as well. Instead of opening an app,
  • There is a new feature called notification dots that shows you a notification awaits you in the form of a subtle circle that appears on the top-right of the app icon. 
  • Autofill has a new update as well. You will now be able to use Android’s autofill features within apps as opposed to just within

  • Text selection will get smarter. It will now be able to pick out things like addresses and business names, as well as suggest appropriate apps for the text you have selected. For example, if you select an address, it will suggest opening

Consumers all over the world will have to wait until later in the year to get Android O, but it is already available to developers.
