A former Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the governorship election with the help of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Punch, Olanusi, who was Mimiko’s deputy, was impeached in 2015 for decamping to the APC.

He said “Without the input of the defectors, there is no way the APC could have won the election and we PDP members that defected to the APC are notable politicians in the 18 local government areas of Ondo State and we were not ready to compromise our stand on winning the election for the APC.

“We defectors in Akokoland outnumbered the initial APC members. We came and we have no other choice but to win the election. Those of us that defected, we regard ourselves as stakeholders and as a result we cannot afford to lose because if you lose, you lose everything.”

Meanwhile, Senator Buruji Kashamu blamed Governor Olusegun Mimiko for PDP’s failure in the Ondo governorship election.
