The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami has announced that a world-class Tier 4 data center is under construction in Kano and should be ready by March this year for commissioning.

The Minister made the disclosure while visiting the site of the proposed data center in Kano for inspection whilst construction work is still ongoing.

The new data center is supposed to be the best in the country, surpassing the existing Tier-3 data center in Abuja with its 41 terabytes memory capacity and about 2.2 petabytes storage capacity as announced by Prof. Pantami.

The upgraded data center according to the Minister is going to serve both the public and private sectors comfortably with its upgraded offerings that will support the existing centers in the country.

In his speech, Prof Pantami said: “I am highly impressed with the quality of the work being done here, the construction, equipment deployed, arrangement of power supply and the security of the area.

“Government has its main data center in Abuja, another one in the South, which is a backup, and this is another one in the Northwest.

“What is more important is, that of Abuja and the South was established some years ago. But this center here is higher because it is a tier-four data center.”
