The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the deployment of more security personnel in Ogun, before and during the Saturday Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Mr Azeez Adeyemi, National Public Relations Officer of the association, made the call at a news conference in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Adeyemi said it was necessary to deploy more personnel to protect lives and property, considering the political atmosphere in the state.
The NANS spokesman stressed that the safety of lives and property in the state should not be taken for granted.
Adeyemi decried some groups, who he said kicked against deployment of military to the state, saying that doing so was the best for the state.
“We are shocked to see some intellectuals kicking against the call on the Federal Government to deploy military to secure lives and property during the governorship election.
“NANS is hereby calling on the Federal Government not to listen to these sponsored groups by the state government; it does not in any way represent the voice of the people.
“The safety of our members, students, should be put into consideration because most of the students will be around to exercise their civic responsibilities.
“Most students registered in the polling units close to their hostel,’’ he said, adding that deployment of adequate security would enable them exercise their franchise.
