People were appalled by a sculpture depicting a fallen angel in gruesome detail that was unveiled in Beijing earlier this week.

People were appalled by a sculpture depicting a fallen angel in gruesome detail that was unveiled in Beijing earlier this week.

At first glance, one would think they were staring at a real angel, cast out of heaven or a rare mix between a chicken and a man.

The artwork was created by two controversial BeijingartistsSun Yuan and Peng Yu.

These artists are renowned for working with extreme materials such as human fat tissue, live animals and baby cadavers to deal with serious issues like perception, death and the human condition.

Fortunately, no baby parts were used for this piece.

According to, their latest work , which features a very old woman with enormous featherless wings collapsed on the ground, is made of silica gel, fiberglass, stainless steel and woven mesh.

The duo explained that the work illustrates the tension and transition between surrealism and realism, between the supernatural and the mundane.

The angel has become completely powerless, unable to do God's will or to help others.
