Few days ago, there was reports of a police informant and Chairman of Oghara Vigilante Group in Ethiope Local Government Area of Delta State, Benson Ogedegbe, who was shot dead in public glare by soldiers attached to the 19 Battalion, Nigeria Army, Koko Barracks, located in the area.
According to the reports, the deceased crime was giving information to the police about the criminal activities of oil bunkerers and other criminals with the protection and connivance of military officers in the battalion.
As the dust is still rising, the widow of the slain Ogedegbe, Endurance, has said that the soldiers killed her husband so that their nefarious activities would not be exposed.
Aside that, she also fingered a notorious criminal kingpin in the area as an accomplice of the military and was the one who contacted his partners in crime in the army to eliminate her husband.
Florence Ogedegbe said in an interview:
“My husband had skirmishes with the notorious hoodlum who is a dangerous criminal in this community. He aids armed security men in a thriving crude oil bunkering business in this area, a crime that my husband severally frustrated, being the head of vigilante in the area.
The hoodlum, who got irritated by the hard stance of my husband against the illegal business he is doing here with soldiers, would stop at nothing to eliminate my husband, and eventually sought the assistance of soldiers, his cohorts.
They promptly shot him dead in broad day light on Tuesday. I want the federal and state governments to bring the killers of my husband to book.”
