Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero for Manchester United as they defeated Norwich 3-2 at Old Trafford in a Premier League fixture played on Saturday, March 16, 2022.
The 37-year-old scored all three goals in the game and was praised as the greatest of all-time (GOAT) by fans on social media platforms.
After the game, Ronaldo took to his official Instagram account to give his thoughts on the victory.
He wrote, "Very happy with this win and for getting us back on track in the Premier League.
"Like I said before, individual achievements are only worth it when they help us reach our goals as a team, and the 60th hat-trick in my career is so much more important because it brought us the 3 points.
"Well done, lads, tremendous effort from everyone. We’re not giving up, we’re fighting until the end!."
After the game, Ronaldo gifted Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho his hat-trick ball.
This was because it was the first time Garnacho was included in the Red Devils first team matchday squad.
On Instagram, Garnacho was full of praise of Ronaldo who gifted him the ball.
The 17-year-old uploaded a picture with Ronaldo and a caption that said, "greatest of all time".
Garnacho happens to be Argentine and had a response from his compatriot retired Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
Aguero disagreed with the comment by Garnacho stating that their compatriot Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
Replying to the message by Garnacho, Aguero wrote, "[You are saying this] because you still haven't played with the best, Lionel Messi."
The debate continues to determine the best player in world football between Ronaldo and Messi and they are near the end of their careers.
