Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has been named by UEFA in the Europa League team of the season.

Bassey, the only African in the 11-man listing, was named alongside two of his Rangers teammates: James Tavernier and Ryan Kent.

The Gers were defeated on Wednesday in the final of the Europa League in Seville, as Eintracht Frankfurt won on 5-4 penalties following a 1-1 scoreline after extra time.

Bassey who was selected by UEFA's Technical Observer panel received high praise for his outstanding performance against Frankfurt in the final on Wednesday.

Rangers trio make team of the season

The 22-year-old has since this season, grown into an important player for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, not only playing in his native left-full-back position but also in the central defence.

Asides from Bassey, Rangers captain Tavernier after scoring the most goals from a full-back position, was also included in the midfield of the dream team.

Tavernier scored seven goals and provided two assists in the run to the final. Another representative from Bassey's team was winger Kent.

The explosive forward appeared to save his finest performances for the European stage this season, and he was instrumental in the team's path to the final: scoring once and assisting five times.

Another title in the waiting for Rangers

Van Bronckhorst's side will now turn their attention to the Scottish Cup final after losing the league to Celtic and the European title.

They will take on Hearts of Mithlodian this weekend in the hope to win their first title this season, and their first Scottish cup since 2009.
