The Confederation of African Football's Champions League (CAF) is the biggest club competition on the African continent.

The last edition was won by Egyptian giants Al Ahly led by South African manager Pitso Mosimane. The Egyptians are the record winners and have won the competition ten times.

They have also won the last two editions, but for the 2021/2022 season, there are competitors who can give the Egyptians a run for their money and try to win the coveted title.

  • Al Ahly

Titles: 10

Country: Egypt

The Egyptians won the last edition of the competition, having beat Kaizers Chiefs last year, while they also won the CAF Super Cup in December.

However, Pitso Mosimane will face his former side in Mamelodi Sundowns and the Sudanese duo of Al Hilal and Al Merreikh. It's not cast in stone, but you can't rule out the record winners and defending champions from doing it again.

  • Zamalek

Titles: 5

Country: Egypt

Despite winning five CAF Champions League titles, the last one for Zamalek came as far back as 2002.

Since then, the Egyptians have played twice in the CAF Champions League finals in 2016 and 2020, coming close to winning another.

This season they have been paired with the Angolan duo of Petro De Luanda and Sagrada Esperanca, while Wydad Casablanca will be the toughest opposition for the team.

  • Esperance

Titles: 4

Country: Tunisia

The Tunisian champions won back-to-back CAF Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019, making it the third and fourth time they have done so.

However, this time they are paired along with some of the continent's strongest teams in CR Belouizdad, fellow Tunisian side Etoile Du Sahel and Botswana's Jwaneng Galaxy in what can be termed a group of death.

  • Raja Casablanca

Titles: 3

Country: Morocco

Raja Casablanca waited a long time to add to their three previous CAF Champions League titles.

The last title came in 1999, but they have been showing signs of a resurgence, having won two of the last three CAF Confederations Cups, including the 2021 edition of the competition.

  • Wydad Casablanca

Titles: 2

Country: Morocco

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have had their fair share of success on the continent, having previously won two CAF Champions League titles.

However, the last title came in 2017 but with a team of their pedigree. There is no doubting how far they can go.

First, they will have to go past Zamalek, Petro Luanda, and Sagrada Esperanca in the group stage.

Honourable mentions include South African side and 2016 champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Etoile Du Sahel.
