France legend Theirry Henry has mentioned Super Eagles Taribo West as one of his toughest direct opponents.
Henry and West clashed when they met while playing in France with Monaco and Auxerre, respectively.
Answering some quick-fire questions while covering the Champions League with CBS Sports on Tuesday, October 19, 2020, Henry revealed that Taribo was the direct opponent he hated playing against.
“Direct opponent I will go back in the days, Taribo West,” the Arsenal legend said.
His co-host James Carragher recalled that West played for Nigeria and Inter Milan, but Henry revealed that it was in his early days that the Nigerian great troubled him.
“Auxerre. Because they were man-marking, he was following you everywhere, even in the dressing room.”
Before he went on to play for Italian giants Inter and AC Milan, West enjoyed cup successes in France, where he won a league title and two domestic cup trophies.
With Nigeria, he was part of the U-23 team that won the gold medal of the football event at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
These days he pastors a church which he founded in Lagos.
