Ivanka Trump wants you to know she does disagree with her dad—just not in public

Ivanka Trump has gotten a lot of heat in recent months for being her father’s daughter—especially after accepting a job as assistant to the president. Ivanka has even been labeled “complicit” by some (most notably in a SNL sketch), but in a new interview with CBS News, Ivanka says she’s no yes woman.

Among other things, Ivanka says she disagrees with her dad on certain topics—she just doesn’t do it in public. “I think there are multiple ways to have your voice heard,” she told Gayle King.

“In some cases, it’s through protest, and it’s through going on the nightly news and talking about or denouncing every issue on which you disagree with. Other times, it is quietly and directly and candidly … I would say not to conflate lack of public denouncement with silence.”

Ivanka also said that, even though she may not disagree with her dad in front of the masses or on social media, it doesn’t mean she’s not giving him “hard truths.” “We’re in a very unique time where noise equals, in a lot of people’s perception, advocacy, and I fundamentally disagree with that,” she said.

“You asked me about people who criticize me for not taking to social media on every single issue, and I would ask them if that would render me more effective or less effective with the people ultimately making decisions?”

That said, Ivanka wouldn’t open up about what, exactly, she disagrees with her dad about. “I think that for me, this isn’t about promoting my viewpoints,” she said. “I think most of the impact I have, over time most people will not actually know about.”

Ivanka has previously been vocal about her support for equal pay, paid family leave, and affordable childcare, but her father’s administration has yet to make a formal move to tackle those issues.

She however has stayed mum about other issues affecting women, including LGBT rights and the potential defunding of Planned Parenthood.
