Using the wrong hairbrush.

Just like with your bra, you've probably got the wrong hair brush. Yes, really. Turns out, hairbrushes are not a one-size-fits-all kind of situation. You need a brush designed for the particular needs of your hair type, whether that's thin locks or big frizzy curls. We talked to Tommy Buckett, a Garnier hairstylist, for help finding the perfect brush for your unique strands:

Thin Hair

The Issue: Limpness

The Solution: A round, metal-bristle brush, such as Creative Professionals Ceramic Ion Ultra Lightweight Hair Brush ($17 for 2-inch barrel, amazon.com), lifts strands by setting hair like a hot roller.

Medium Hair

The Issue: Flyaways

The Solution: A round boar-and-nylon brush banishes fuzz—the nylon grabs hair while the boar smooths the cuticle. Try RickyCare TerraLyte Round Brush ($27 for 1.5-inch barrel, rickysnyc.com).

Thick Hair

The Issue: Too. Much.

The Solution: A boar-bristle paddle brush, such as Wigo Boar Bristle Brush ($25, ulta.com), takes down bulk; the flat shape doesn't encourage root volume and helps de-puff lengths while polishing for shine.
