Mariah Carey will be walking down the aisle sooner than we expect.

The singer just got engaged to billionaire James Packer after dating for a few months.

Carey and Packer's engagement was confirmed by the singer's representatives. "Yes, the couple were engaged tonight in New York," they confirmed to Daily Mail Australia.

The 47-yr-old casino boss had proposed to the 45-yr-old singer with a huge diamond engagement ring after less than a year of dating. Reports say the the ring 'comes in at around 35 carats'.

Packer had organised a private dinner at Eleven Madison Park in New York with a group of Mariah's closest friends so the special moment could take place "in front of the most special people in her life," Daily Mail reports.

The couple were first seen together publicly in June 2015 on the Italian island of Capri confirming rumors that they had been dating for a while.

"We first met in Aspen [Colorado]. We were at the Hercules premiere. We were talking and laughing, and people were getting mad at us and stuff like that. So we hit it off", Mariah told Steve Harvey in his show.

This will be the third marriage for both Carey and Packer.
