Bill and Hillary Clinton are one couple who have survived the ups and downs of marriage and are still standing strong 40 years after.

An affair that shocked the world couldn't tear the political power houses apart for a minute.

The Clintons professed profound love and admiration for each other on Twitter to mark their 40th wedding anniversary.

"40 years ago, I married the cute guy from the library. Happy anniversary, —you've still got it! -H," Hillary wrote.

"Seems like only yesterday." - the former U.S president responded on his official Twitter account.

Bill and Hillary met in 1970 at Yale University's school library and kept bumping into each other often.

The couple went on their first date few days later and in 1975 got married in the living room of their home in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The Clintons became grandparents on September 27, 2014, when their only child Chelsea Clinton gave birth to her daughter Charlotte.
