Susan Copestick, 56, who was raped by her ex-boyfriend saved his life after he overdosed on pills - to make sure he faced justice for the horrific attack.

Ms Copestick was sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Peter Drummond, 62, at her mother's home in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, in November 2014.

The unemployed bricklayer trapped her inside the house and held a knife to her as he subjected her to a prolonged attack, fuelled by Viagra.

According to Daily Mail, Ms Copestick, who has waived her right to anonymity, said he had brought a makeshift 'rape kit' in his bag, including the drug, duct tape, and, bizarrely, a pork joint with which he then asked her to make sandwiches.

Following the attack, he attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on pills, but Ms Copestick called an ambulance to make sure he faced justice.

Ms Copestick, who was in a relationship with Drummond for 10 years, said: 'There was no way I was going to let him die without being punished for what he had done.

'It was the coward's way out and I wasn't going to give him that luxury.

'Saving my rapist's life was the only way I could get the justice I needed to move on with mine

Susan Copestick added that: 'When the police called me to say that he'd been given 10 years, it was a massive relief. I knew that I was finally safe.

'I don't think I'll ever trust a man again. But I hope that my story will inspire other victims of sexual attacks to come forward. It is nothing to be ashamed of and justice will be served.

'People might find it odd that I saved the life of my own rapist, but I am far happier in the knowledge that he will suffer for the next decade rather than taking the coward's way out.'
