The police officer, who does not want to be named, was one of several officers who responded to a disorderly conduct call on Tuesday, Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said in a statement.
Police broke up a street fight between teens by dancing Whip Nae Nae
A Washington D.C. police officer arrived on the scene of a fight to break it up, but ended up dancing Whip Nae Nae instead.
When the officer arrived, they found a group of teens who were trying to fight each other.
Instead of using force, the cop decided to challenge the teens to a dance-off. One girl, 17-year-old Aaliyah Taylor, took her up on it. They danced to the popular Silentó song “Whip/Nae-Nae”
Aliyah said that she is usually wary of police, but the fun dance-off has changed her mind about them.
'She gave me a hug and she was like, 'What's your name?' and she was smiling. I was like, 'Oh yeah, we need more cops like you,' she said.
Many people took to social media to praise the cop for breaking up the argument without resorting to violence including President Obama.
The teen posted the video to Facebook, where it has received over 600,000 views so far.
“Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun,” Aliyah told the Washington Post.
