For Nigerians specifically, foreign travel is usually at a record high as people seize the opportunity to visit friends and family in other regions across the world, or just take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
So, are you looking to travel abroad this summer? Here are 5 important things to take note of as you embark on your journey.
1. Take note of your flight schedule: This may seem like a foregone conclusion but this list would be incomplete without pointing out how important it is to go over your travel schedule. For instance, there's a big difference between 4am and 16:00hrs. Also take note of what time of the day you'll be travelling, and how long it'll take you to get to the airport.
2. Arrive the airport early: This is the summer period and with increased travel it's not unusual to find overcrowded airports. Save yourself some major stress by getting to the airport early and checking in with limited stress. Also its not unheard of for flights to mix up passenger bookings, so its advisable to arrive the airport early and be sorted without worrying about missing your flight.
3. Be polite but firm with Nigerian airport officials: From immigration officials to those at check-in counters, chances are you'll meet a Nigerian airport official who'll ask for money or worse still, try to extort from you under some guise or the other. Understand your rights and remain firm but polite. A bright smile and quick banter can save the day.
4. Sort out your finances: With the clamp down on Naira cards abroad, it's important to sort out your finances before embarking on a journey abroad now. So, whether you intend to open a domiciliary account with a credit card or travel with a limited amount of cash, these are things you should consider ahead of your trip.
