6 causes of accidents!

The World Health Organization(WHO) has highlighted the major causes of traffic accidents that result in deaths.

On Monday, October 20th, World Health Organization(WHO) released the Global Status Report on Road Safety.

It also highlighted the major causes of accidents.

Here are six risk factors:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Riding without helmets
  • Driving without seatbelts
  • Lack of child seats
  • Vehicles without basic safety standards.

Recommendations from the report include; maximum speed of 50 kilometres (31 miles) per hour in urban areas, banning drunk driving, mandatory helmet use for all two-wheel users, including children, national seatbelt laws, belts in the front and back seats.

On regulations and laws, Etienne Krug, head of WHO’s disability, violence and injury prevention unit, warns the people in charge to take it seriously.

“Decision makers need to rethink transport policies. The lack of policies aimed at vulnerable road users is killing our people and harming our cities.”
