Mobile court convicts 62 motorists in Jos
A mobile court has convicted 62 traffic offenders over different violations in Jos state.
Premium Times reports that the offenders were arrested by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) over various traffic violations.
According to the FRSC Public Education Officer, Andrew Bala, 63 motorists were arrested before they were arraigned before a mobile court on May 7, 2016, where 62 were convicted.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he stressed the importance of mobile courts, adding that they helped to reduce road traffic crashes and get rid of under-aged drivers.
“Our men on patrol actually arrested 63 motorists but one was discharged and acquitted while 62 were found guilty and convicted.
We mostly use the mobile courts these days because we feel there is the need to give motorists fair hearing, and for me it is a better deal,” he said.
Their offences included overloading, use of worn-out tyres, vehicle licence violation, driver’s licence violation, use of phones while driving, seatbelt violation and disregard for caution signs.
