The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is very concerned with the high rate of traffic violators and offences.

Speaking at the inauguration of 283 operational vehicles for the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the president, represented by the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, advised the agency to put an end to this by enforcing traffic rules.

"There is the recurring problem of overloading of humans, animals and other cargo beyond the approved capacity of the vehicles especially by commercial road users ostensibly to maximise profit.

But this is with attendant consequence on the longevity of our roads and safety of the passengers; one additional road hazard of immense safety implication is the poor handling of cargo containers during haulage,“ he said.

The president also spoke on the new buses, which he said will be used to ensure road safety.

"It is to further boost the operational success of the corps in line with the administration’s desire to ensure safety and security of citizens that the procurement of 283 operational vehicles is being commissioned today,“he said.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, represented by Mr Roy Ugo, the Permanent Secretary, commended the president for these new buses, adding that they will ensure higher productivity.

“With this there will be no more hiding place for violators of traffic rules and regulations,“ he said.
