Transport unions praise Governor Ambode for reducing gridlocks
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode's efforts at relieving traffic in Lagos state have been applauded by transport unions.
On April 29, 2015, members of the Road Transport Employers' Association (RTEAN) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) praised the governor for alleviating the traffic situation.
Despite the praises showered on the governor, the Chairman of NURTW, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, urged the state government to work harder.
"The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) and LASTMA in Lagos are really trying their very best, but there is still some room for improvement because Lagos is fast becoming a Mega City.
Day in, day out, the population is increasing and this makes the job even more difficult for the traffic managers.
I will advise the government to employ more hands in all agencies that have responsibility to manage traffic flowing and keep the roads safe.
That way, the job will be become easier,’’ he advised.
Afterwards, the transport union leaders urged President Muhammadu Buhari to do the same by ensuring the successful completion of the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project.
