FRSC tells motorists to install speed limiting device or face arrest

Motorists of the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state have been urged to install the speed limiting device or face arrest and prosecution.

FRSC arrests traffic offenders

According to Mr Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu, the Unit Commander, FRSC RS4.12 Command, Pankshin, motorists should use the device or be ready to face prosecution.

Speaking at a public enlightenment rally, tagged "Kill the Speed with Speed Limiter’’ held in the Mangu council Secretariat, he also urged drivers to install the device before the October 1, 2016 deadline.

"There is no going back on the Oct. 1 deadline for the enforcement of speed limiter.

FRSC will no longer condone the reckless killing and loss of precious lives on our highways; We will do all we could to stop such carnage.

The public should see the need to imbibe the use of the device in all commercial vehicles before the commencement date so as not to face arrest and prosecution by FRSC", he warned.

Akabogu was supported by Daniel Idakwo, the President of Gradan Driving Academy, the traditional ruler of Mangu, Mr Michael Hirse, the Bishop of Pankshin Diocese, Dr Michael Golam, and Mr Titus Bise, the LGA chairman, who all highlighted the importance of the device.

While offering his support for the device, the LGA chairman also appealed to FRSC to make the device available to all motorists.

He said the availability of the device would reduce accidents and ensure road safety.

"I believe that the availability and affordability of the speed limiter to commercial vehicle operators and others will be key to its implementation.

The concept of FRSC will go a long way in reducing the high death toll associated with road crashes on our highways.

It will also save the lives of innocent commuters, who are always victims of reckless driving by some drivers", he added.

Adegoke Adetunji, the Ogun state FRSC Sector Commander, has announced that the use of devices could reduce accidents by 70 percent!
