Trailers causing traffic in Apapa

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority(LASTMA) has come up with a solution to the horrible persistent Apapa traffic.

Mr. Chris Olakpe, Chief Executive Officer of LASTMA, has revealed plans to move trailers and containers from Apapa to a proposed site for the truck farm located in the premises of the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, Mile 2.

This new truck will be about 3,000 square meters, it should hold an estimated 5,000 trucks at a time.

According to him, this is part of the agency's efforts towards ridding Apapa of the persistent traffic gridlock caused mostly by indiscriminate parking of trucks.

While assessing the complex with stakeholders from other agencies, Olakpe announced that operation “Arrest, Impound and Prosecute (AIP)” will be fully employed during and after the yuletide period.

He went on to advise motorists against drinking and driving.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bashir Braimah, placed emphasis on the need for road users to obey traffic rules, especially in a mega city like Lagos.

According to him, this is the only way the present administration will maintain a free flow of traffic on all roads.

Afterwards, the President of Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), Chief Remi Ogunbami, commended the government's efforts towards eradicating traffic in Lagos state.

This solution comes after a serious trailer-induced traffic jam in Apapa that caused Lagosians to do a 'walk of life.'

Do you think relocating the trailers will reduce traffic along Apapa axis?
