In Lagos, LASTMA has a new solution to the terrible traffic situation.
Vanguard reports that LASTMA has a new directive to book traffic offenders, rather than apprehending their vehicles.
Mr. Oluseyi Whenu, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, made this known while briefing top level officials, adding that this is all part of the agency's effort to place more emphasis on maintaining flawless traffic.
“That is the minimum we owe the people of the state."
This new strategy involves traffic offenders being booked and given a grace period for payment and defaulters apprehended at home through the information in the motor vehicle database.
He went on to advise LASTMA officials to seek alternative traffic management methods rather than physical apprehension and arrest.
“Since LASTMA officials are a reflection of the state government, they should ensure that their activities add value to the government’s covenant with Lagos residents to make life easier for them."
Lagos residents were also urged to cooperate LATSMA by by obeying all traffic laws and regulations.
