'In 2015, a 9.3% reduction was recorded in road traffic crashes', boss reports

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has announced a reduction in both road traffic crashes and fatalities.

Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), reports a 9.3% reduction for road traffic crashes and 1.4% in the number of fatalities recorded for 2015.

He made this revelation during a press conference in Abuja, yesterday (January 19th).

While stating some of the commission's main goals for 2016; improve fleet operations and sustainable stakeholders’ consultation, Oyeyemi disclosed data for last year.

  • 439 crashes were recorded with 3,113 fatalities.
  • 1,207 people were rescued by personnel of the corps.
  • 25,961 persons were arrested for 28,631 offences, 54% were speed-related violations while dangerous driving made up for 17%.

On the 1st April, 2016 deadline for the installation of speed limiting devices, Oyeyemi said President Muhammadu Buhari's approval means the date will not be changed.
