“Of every 10 accidents in the state, five of them are caused by Okada riders”

Motorcycle (Okada) riders have been named as the worst culprits of traffic regulations in Benue state.

Okadas

According to the sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Chidi Nkwonta, they are also responsible for most accidents.

Okada riders are the "worst culprits of traffic regulations after the Okada riders in the state”, he said.

“Out of every 10 accidents in the state, five of them are caused by Okada riders”.

He blamed this on the lack of co-operation from the leadership of the motorcycle operators.

“They are the most uncooperative union that we have in the state; they don’t respond to our invitations for educational programmes, in fact it is difficult to get them in one place.”

Last year, the Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, also blamed Okada riders for the increase in traffic robberies.

In light of this, Ambode enforced the restriction of okada and tricycle operations in Lagos state.

Do you agree that Okadas are to blame for accidents, traffic robbery?
