The Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) is collaborating with traffic agencies to ensure full enforcement of the Lagos Road Traffic Laws, especially the restriction of "okada" and tricycle operations.

Mr Hygenius Omeje, the Sector Commander, revealed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, November 19th.

He added that the commission was committed to ensuring that commercial motorcyclists complied with the state traffic laws.

"The Lagos traffic law is still very much in force.

“You will also notice that there is a task force already in place; we are working with them to ensure that we take them (commercial motorcyclists) back to where they belong – that is, within the hinterland where BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) and all other buses don’t have access.

“So, there is also an enforcement unit in that regard and we are working in partnership with other task force to ensure that we push them (commercial motorcyclists) off the major highways.’’

On November 10th, Pulse Nigeria reported that Governor Ambode blamed Okada riders, street hawkers for the increase in traffic robberies in Lagos state while addressing the Government House Correspondents.

Based on this, the governor and his emergency Security Council reached an agreement, which is the full enforcement of the Lagos Road Traffic Laws, especially the restriction of okada and tricycle operations.

"Any person who fails to comply with any of the provisions of this section commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction as stipulated in the law."
