Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has announced plans to begin the implementation of the speed limit device in Nigeria.

This announcement comes after an Abuja Federal High Court granted the permission to enforce the use of the speed limit device.

Addressing officers and men of the Kaduna Sector Command, Oyeyemi directed FRSC officials to prepare for this enforcement.

He added that the President had given his permission, hence the need to work at reducing road crashes.

“As such, the legal hurdle has been cleared; we had a public hearing and  has given his approval for the enforcement of the speed device.

We are just waiting for the House of Representative’s report before we commence enforcement. We need to cut down the speed of vehicles and any way we can do this should be a welcome development.

We need to get it right because losing the active group of our population is not acceptable.

The government has shown its commitment, we must justify this trust by reducing road crashes, which is our major mandate,” he said.

The original date for the enforcement and implementation of the device was April 1st.

However, this was moved due to concerns against the use of the device.
