Travel bloggers, African content creators, photographers and the tech savvy public are using social media to re-imagine the African continent for themselves and the world. Instagram and other social media platforms have helped to showcase travel to Africa as way more than safari and game parks.
Brands reveal social media platforms that work best for them
Several brand reps were on hand on the day two of the Social Media Week Lagos 2015 to reveal the social media platforms that have been the best for them
In recent years numerous homegrown websites and agencies have sprung up to encourage a new breed of traveler -from inside the continent and abroad- to re-discover Africa and all it has to offer for business and leisure travellers alike. #SMWTravelAfrica Day explores how tourism boards, airlines, hotel agencies and others are working hard to harness the power of digital media to the delight of destination seekers.
Speaking at the session -#SMWTravelAfrica Taking Off: A Trip Through the Travel Buyer’s Journey- were Laide Damromola, Digital Marketing, Arik Air, Aminat Gbajablamila, Managing Director Ginger Tapes & Grill, Abi Adisa, Amara Suite and Femi Fajemisim, Head of Marketing, Easy Taxi Nigeria.
Abi Adisa who represents Amara Suite revealed that Facebook has been the most effective social media platform for them.
“Facebook allows you to post photos and comments with customers interacting with you,” Abi said.
“Twitter has also been helpful,” he added.
Laide Damromola, Digital Marketing, Arik Air said the airline uses Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Youtube. She said customers interactions are done through the inbox features of some of the social media platforms.
Femi Fajemisim, Head of Marketing, Easy Taxi Nigeria says Twitter has been a massive tool for the taxi service company while Aminat Gbajablamila, Managing Director Ginger Tapes & Grill revealed that they are still stuck with the email services to pass information to customers and clients.
“Email communications with which we make announcements for events, newletters have been fruitful,” she said.
“Twitter has also been useful but Instagram is also more powerful for us because customers are able to see the pictures and sense it. We get 6 of 10 customers from Instagram,” Aminat revealed.
