Social Media Week Lagos 2016 Highlights

Social Media Week Lagos 2016 partnered with global brands to create unique and compelling experiences that had Africa’s most hyper-connected influencers buzzing.

Among the 4 cities participating in the February edition, Lagos took the lead in a number of analytics including attendee numbers, registered speakers, and social mentions. With a total reach of 810 million, SMW Lagos 2016 was by far the most buzzed about of the group.

State of the art Landmark Centre, Oniru, Lagos, was transformed into the SMW Lagos Campus. Featuring two main stages, two masterclass stages, a pop-up stage, co-working lounge, VIP suite, an exhibitors installation pavilion, a beach front lounge, private meeting rooms and more!

Honorary #SMWTravelAfrica Day Chairman Foli Coker (Lagos State Commissioner For Tourism, One Lagos) welcomed attendees to a day of interactive programming that included a walking tour with celebrity photographers and bloggers hosted by Instagram. Airline partner Lufthansa's Welcome Lounge was the place to kick back and relax between main stage panel sessions. Lufthansa also debuted 3D technology that allowed attendees to get a feel of the style and comfort of Lufthansa's air crafts.

SMW Travel Africa day has become an annual tradition that always draws a crowd. Exploring how social media & tech is changing travel, hospitality and tourism to Nigeria, SMW Travel Africa Day 2016 was one to remember.

Facebook highlighted its commitment to Nigerian content partners and developers with a full calendar of workshops, masterclasses and events both on and off the Social Media Week Lagos Campus.

Powered by The Beat 99.9FM, the focus for this year's Music day was monetizing in the digital era. "Getting Paid in Full in the Era of Free" featured panelists working within Nigeria’s music industry, including legendary Nigerian rapper eLDee who founded PlayData, a broadcast monitoring service.

SMW Governance Day featured 'Let's Talk Governance' organized by EiE and USAID's Strengthening Advocacy and Civic Engagement. Panelists spoke on the need for Nigerians to engage government via technology and featured a pop-up marketplace with NGO's and activist using social media and technology to make positive change in their communities.

There was standing room only when Senator Bukola Saraki answered tough questions during 'Did You Say Change: Game Changers of the 2015 Nigerian Elections', a mainstage SMW session hosted by State Craft.

Legendary footballer Emmanuel Amunike sat down with journalist Colin Udoh to discuss how social media and technology is changing sports across the country. Farouk Aminu, Head of Research & Corporate Strategy at Pencom lead an engaging chat about how millennial tech entrepreneurs and small business owners can begin planning for their futures.

The Nescafe Coffee Bar kept attendees fueled and having fun. Utilizing Twitter, Team Nescafe hosted contests and games at the Coffee Bar daily.

First Bank's Media Lounge served as a designated workspace for bloggers and journalists throughout SMW Lagos. The lounge was equipped with WiFi, a livestream of SMW Lagos hashtags and other multimedia content. Leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, set up a recharging station and pop-up customer service center which gave away tons of freebies, much to the delight of guests.

The Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum hosted an event celebrating Nigeria's social media do-gooders. Fashion blog StylebyAyaba.com hosted a fashion show featuring established and emerging African designers, beauty experts and bloggers who've used social media to build their communities.

Red Bull helped end SMW16 on a high note with the Wrap Party featuring performances from Omawunmi, Reminisce and a DJ set by JimmyJATT.
