The regulator stressed that to address the increase of port request rejections, it had resolved to monitor operators and take appropriate actions.

Reports reveal that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has stated that MTN Nigeria, Globacom and Etisalat have violated the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) process time obligations in the third quarter of this year.

The regulator stressed that to address the increase of port request rejections, it had resolved to monitor operators and take appropriate actions.

The Commission made this known in its “2015 Q3 Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement” report, according to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek.

“Consequent upon the above, series of compliance checks were carried out regarding timer violations by donor operators with respect to `validation and deactivation responses’, which have timelines of two hours and an hour respectively,’’ the NCC said.

The Commission further explained that its compliance activity was in line with Section 89 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.

The section mandates the Commission to monitor all significant matters relating to the performance of every licensed telecoms service provider and provide reports to that effect at the end of the financial year.

The ‘Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement’ strategies is aimed at obtaining fair competition, ethical market conduct, amongst others, in the Nigerian telecoms industry.
