Antivirus maker's experts predict multiple attacks on financial data in Nigeria this year

Dirk Kollberg, senior security researcher, global research & analysis team at Kaspersky Lab says that many Nigerian companies may also see their data stolen by cyber thieves.

According to various media reports, experts from popular antivirus software maker Kaspersky Lab have predicted that there will be many attacks with intent to get personal and financial data of Nigerian users this year.

Nigeria CommunicationsWeek reports that Dirk Kollberg, senior security researcher, global research & analysis team at Kaspersky Lab says that many Nigerian companies may also see their data stolen by cyber thieves.

“Nigerians companies are now choosing to keep their data in the cloud due to the reduced costs and the grown Internet speed, so the opportunity for malware writers to steal company data has become a much bigger risk than a few years ago,” said Kollberg, according to the report.

Experts from the firm also anticipate that in 2016 IT users will see a significant evolution in cyber espionage tradecraft.

”It is expected to see a decreased emphasis on ‘persistence’, with a greater focus on memory-resident or fileless malware, reducing the traces left on an infected system and thereby avoiding detection,” said Kaspersky experts in their 2016 predictions based on the expertise of the global research and analysis team made up of the company’s 43 top security experts all over the world.

Kaspersky is one of the most popular antivirus softwares around with millions of users across the world.
