Why the BBC website was hacked

Hackers on Wednesday, threatened to attack the BBC assets online, unless the top gear TV show is reinstated.

Security experts are trying to unravel the mystery behind the hacking and subsequent pulling down of the BBC website. Sources from the news agency say they are not sure why the site was pulled down, but that they have reasons to believe that it is related to a threat from hackers on Wednesday, asking them to reinstate TOP GEAR- a reality TV show that has a huge followership across the globe, of about 300million fans.

The source said that hackers on Wednesday, threatened to attack the BBC assets online, unless the show is reinstated. He said the hackers are fans of TOP GEAR who are members of the shadowy digital protest group-Anonymous.

The hackers sent an open threat letter online warning that they will lock down the website by directing traffic overload to the BBC site that will eventually shut it down.

The letter says: "Dear BBC, you don't wanna p** off 300 million viewers.
