In May 2016, Google had announced to the public that it was looking for a name for the next Android mobile operating system, calling on the public to send in entries to that effect.
Yesterday, the tech giant announced that it had selected a name via the Android Twitter page:
A nougat is a sweet that falls into a family of confectionery made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes chopped candied fruit.
It has a chewy consistency and is used in a variety of candy bars and chocolates.
The Android naming system began with the version 1.5 dubbed Cupcake. After that came the Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, and the current one called Marshmallow (Version 6.0-6.0.1).
The Android Nougat mobile operating system will be out later this year.
