Corruption, Violence... Something Is Wrong With Nigeria, MAPOLY Student Laments

A MAPOLY student and spoken word poet seeks to inspire change in Nigeria with a strongly worded spoken word video, underlining all that is wrong in Nigeria in what he called a call-to-action.

A student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta (MAPOLY), James Ademuyiwa, has added his voice to the call for change in Nigeria with a spoken word poem.

The 22-year-old Mass Communication student, presently an intern at AbsolutePR, Lagos, underlined a number of issues wrong in Nigeria in the strongly worded spoken word piece he titled '.'

Speaking with Student Pulse, he said the unfortunate happening happening around the world are pointers to the fact something is definitely been wrong in whole world, so much that living is no more worth it.

"The idea behind this piece and what particularly brought the inspiration is the increasing corruption, violence and disasters in the world in general, and in Nigeria in particular," James said.

He said he wrote the poem to spur Nigerians to soul-search and initiate the much needed change.

"'The Soul's Voyage'" is a piece that calls for change, peace and attention to things that are no more right in the society,

"We urgently need to correct them, so that all would be well once again," he added.

James, whose poems are usually themed around social change, won the Season 6 of the with a stirring rape poem.

Here is an excerpt of his poem: "SOUL'S VOYAGE"

Soul go! Go to religious homes and villages

Tell them about the sweetness in their holy lies

To continue washing the outer layer of the cup and neglect the inner to stench!

Inform them of their success at building schools for the poor children

Go soul! Go whisper into their ears that chameleon living was the life of Christ

Even holy killings was all Mohammed did while he was alive

Tell their leaders to keep flying in private crafts

While the congregation suffer from poverty called witch crafts

Soul, won't you go and tell them to do more of money making sermons

And neglect all that deal with salvation for wealth and riches seminars

Soul Go! Go tell them the lies! Soul Go!

Soul! Go to parliaments, and tell them the lies also

Tell them the seats are for butchers and hoodlums

That governance is meant for scavengers who feed on masses' blood

Tell them justice should be fair when corruption is at its peak

And Jungle justice for those found stealing spoons at the market places

Tell them, democracy is for them, by them and them alone

Remember to ring in their ears that majority are smiling at homes

And minorities are suffering on the seats of power

Soul Go! Go tell them the lies! Soul Go!
