This was revealed by the Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Asaba.

The Commissioner said the affected schools did not meet the conditions for effective teaching and learning, and must thus be closed to raise the standard of education.

He added that the names of the affected schools will soon be published for public consumption.

A  school must have an environment that is conducive for teaching and learning while the teachers must have requisite qualifications before it is allowed to operate, Muoboghare said.

The Commissioner also alleged that there is an examination racketeering collusion between such illegal schools and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) officials.

It is for all these reasons that the government has decided to shut down the schools.
