N20,000 Is All We Can Pay — LASU Students

LASU students have declared that they would only pay N20,000 as tuition fees even as the management's July 6 deadline approaches.

The tuition fees crisis as the Lagos State University (LASU) is far from over as the students have set a cap of N20,000 as the acceptable tuition fees for all students of the institution.

According to Tribune, the students, under the umbrella of the  Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU), proposed N20,000 as tuition fee, N10,000 as acceptance fees and N500 as caution fee, for all the faculties.

This proposed sum, much lower than the N25,000 charged prior to the 2011 hike, is certain to raise tension, especially as the LASU management had on June 19th, spokesperson, Kayode Sutton,  announced up to 60% reduction in the fees.

Student Pulse had reported last week that LASU students wanted want a maximum of  N46,500 for returning students and no more than N65, 500 for newly admitted students.

The new development means that students have now changed their mind.

Citing a statement signed by LASUSU President, Nurudeen Yusuf,Tribune said the students have resolved not to pay the new fees even as the July 6 deadline for payment approaches.

Yusuf reportedly asked the students to resume but warned them to disregard the deadline and refuse to pay their fees until the conclusion of negotiations with the government.
