Authorities at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, have banned students from staying in the lecture halls beyond 7pm.
According to the institution's spokesman, Charles Oni, the development is targeting student who are in the habit of sleeping in the lecture halls.
"The hostels are undergoing renovation as many of you are aware, and efforts are on to beef up security around these same hostels in view of developments around the college," Oni said in a statement published by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
e gathered from students that the lack of hostel accommodation on the campus is the reason why lecture halls have been converted to hostels of sorts.
But Oni said the ban would remain in force until on-going of renovation of the hostels is completed.
"The hostels are undergoing renovation as many of you are aware, and efforts are on to beef up security around these same hostels in view of developments around the college," he added.
"The hostels will be available for students' use as soon as possible.
"Pending the conclusion of renovation and the expansion of security apparatus, no student should be found in any of the classrooms beyond 7.00 p.m."
