It is imperative that Nigeria first deals with the nagging problem of corruption before it attempts to lead other African and third world countries, says a university don, Oluwole Aluko.
Nigeria must escape 'yoke of corruption' to lead — Babcock Prof
Only after succesfully dealing with corruption within the country can Nigeria hope to lead other third world countries, a don has said.
Aluko, a Professor of Public Administration and Local Government, Babcock University Ilishan, Ogun State, was speaking at a public forum organised by the Association of Veteran Journalists, Osun State chapter when he made the assertion.
The don said the government must first make transparency, honesty and integrity its watchword and be free from corruption.
"The vision of honesty, transparency and integrity for African governments and people must start in Nigeria if the black continent must not be doomed but get liberated from the yoke of corruption," Aluko said.
"This is because for every five Africans there is one Nigerian."
He argued that through the adoption of probity accountability and transparency in governance, Nigeria can emerge leader of the world's many third world countries.
